Yesterday was the first meeting for Chez Alpha's newly organized book club. Our first read was the classic God's Bits of Wood by Senegalese master writer Ousmane Sembene. The Africana Book Club is diving into powerful stories and voices from across Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America — exploring how our histories, languages, and cultures connect us across continents. We are a small but thought-provoking group, not only with a passion for reading, but a love of discussion and African history. Book club members were ready to take on serious topics, including colonization, misogyny, changing cultural mores, and identity. We'll keep you updated.
