Biography:
With a BA in Art from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio, and her MFA from Bradley University,
Peoria, Illinois, Angela Franklin-Faye has exhibited her works throughout the US and
internationally. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, she has lived and worked abroad since 1997 in
Senegal, United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, and the Pacific Island region. This international
experience has resulted in a body of work that celebrates and chronicles The Diaspora
experience globally.

Artist Statement:
“While I have lived near the Atlantic Ocean for many years, being in the Pacific Island region added a new layer to my work. I was once again awed by the strength, color, and legacy of the ocean and find myself creating designs that continue to explore water and the integral role it plays in all of our lives.”

With great light, access to vivid fabric, and time for reflection, I pushed my designs even further. In addition, the Pacific Island region allowed me to explore another Diaspora that I knew so little about. I have been fortunate to juxtapose the people, customs, traditions, and language found in the Pacific Region with what I saw in West Africa, the Gulf Region, the urban streets of Baltimore, and the semi-rural community of West College Hill in Cincinnati.
