Book Club @Chez Alpha Books
Story Hour at Chez Alpha Books:
The story hour program at Chez Alpha Books is a wonderful opportunity for children to participate in, not just listen to, but be a part of an interactive, fun-filled reading program that integrates the arts and literacy. We normally schedule this program the last Saturday of each month. In a world of technology where children literally live with their mobile phones, PlayStation, and other video games, it is important to organize activities that inspire children to use their imagination, provide visual images that echo their life experiences, and participate collectively in activities that are good for the body, mind, and soul.

November Story Hour - Let's Talk About Culture
Pack light cause we're heading to O'ahu in Hawai'i. Punky Aloha is a Polynesian girl who carries her culture in her heart and in everything she does.
Punky loves to do a lot of things—except meeting new friends. She doesn’t feel brave enough. So when her grandmother asks her to go out and grab butter for her famous banana bread, Punky hesitates. Her grandmother then shares her magical sunglasses that will make her brave. Before she goes her grandmother reminds her of how they share Aloha saying, Be helpful. Be Giving. Be Brave. With the help of her grandmother’s magical sunglasses, and with a lot of aloha in her heart, Punky sets off on a BIG adventure for the very first time. Written and beautifully illustrated by Shar Tuiasoa, children will enjoy this story and there is a short activity when we finish reading. |
